HICKORY — Pisgah sophomore Terran Brown made it to the NCHSAA Class 3-A West Regional championship match and had to wrestle a familiar opponent, East Henderson’s Marshall Frank.
It took five minutes and 39 seconds for Brown to dispose of Frank, pinning the Eagle to win the Class 3-A West Regional gold medal.
In addition to Brown, two other Black Bears qualified for next weekend’s state tournament as senior Josey Ward (145) and sophomore Chandler Winebarger (138) will make the trip with Brown.
Ward grappled his way to the regional championship match, but had to accept a silver medal after forfeiting to Enka’s Chris Bang due to an injury he suffered in a semifinal match.
Winebarger lost in the consolation finals to Enka's Phil Daub and finished fourth.
The Class 3-A Wrestling West Regional were held at St. Stephens High on Friday and Saturday.
