So Deeply Missed

CANTON —  Buford Barton Mease, 74, of Boydston Street, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013.

Mr. Mease was born March 13, 1939, in Haywood County to the late Grover C. Mease and the late Jessie Williams Mease.  He had resided in Haywood County all of his life and was a former employee of the  A&P Grocery Store in Canton.  Buford later began his career at Champion International, where he retired with 35 years of dedicated service.  He was a faithful member of West Canton Baptist Church where he also served as an usher. Buford enjoyed listening to gospel music and could often be found attending gospel singings held throughout the area.  He loved his hometown and community and enjoyed Pickin’ in the Park and Winter Pickin’ in the Armory and always made an effort to support local businesses and events held in Haywood County.  Buford was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he played an important role in each of their lives.  Whether it was attending school programs, ballgames, other sporting events, or driving his grandchildren to school — Buford was truly a devoted “Papaw.” When remembering Buford Barton Mease, we remember a man who was indeed a friend to everyone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael “Moose” Mease, who passed away in 2008; his brothers, G.C. Mease, Bobby Joe Mease and Carroll Mease; his sisters, Hilda Cagle, Ruth Rider and Adeline Ballard.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 22 years and the love of his life, Frances Trull Mease; his sons, Marty Rogers, of Canton, and Timothy Rogers, and his wife, Becky Rogers, of Canton; grandsons, Chris Rogers, of Canton, and Jody Rogers, of Canton; a brother, Kenneth Mease, and his wife, Chrysta Mease, of Canton; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at West Canton Baptist Church with the Revs. Bruce Cayton and Chris Willett officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Trull, Terry Trull, Tim Ruff, Colby Pressley, Chris Rogers, Melvin Allen and Katie Pressley. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Memorials may be made to West Canton Baptist Church, Building Fund, 75 Lowe St., Canton, NC 28716 or The Homestead at MedWest, 127 Sunset Ridge, Clyde, NC 28716.
