Bulls that have been through the Mountain Research Station performance testing program will be offered for sale at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Western Regional Livestock Center, 474 Stock Drive, Canton.

The 36th annual bull sale will feature 28 Angus, one Charolais, two Gelbvieh, seven Simmental and Semmental-Angus cross bulls, all that have been through the rigorous testing program.

Each July, private beef producers enter their bulls into the program on consignment. In January, they are sold at auction and the owner keeps the profit.

The goal of the program is to produce a higher quality beef herd across the state.

All bulls will have a floor of $1,500 and can be viewed at the sale site, where they will be moved Friday morning.

The test is sponsored by the North Carolina Beef Cattle Improvement Program and conducted through the cooperative efforts of North Carolina Cooperative Extension and North Carolina Department of Agriculture.

In case of inclement weather, a recorded message will be posted at 456-3943 regarding sale status.
