Businesses sought for ‘Kids on Main’ pre-block parties

Apr 22, 2013

In 2012 the Downtown Waynesville Association held the first, bi-annual “Kids on Main” pre-Block Party, by offering a special activity for children from 6 to 7 p.m.) leading into the Block Party (held from 7 to10 p.m.).  The first year was well received by the merchants and the families that participated

Now it’s time to sign up  to participate in “Kids on Main” for the 2013 Memorial Day weekend block party (Saturday, May 25)

or for those who have signed up, let the DWA know what the activity will be.

“There are 11 businesses signed up so far, but we would like to meet or break the 21 we had last time, said Jaimie Cogdill of the DWA. “The hour long ‘Kids on Main’ activity can be in a store or outside on the sidewalk.  Need an idea — bubbles, sidewalk chalk, face painting, paint/jewelry projects, decorate cookies — be creative.”

Restaurants can offer a fast and easy kid-friendly dinner special, such as chicken fingers, hot dogs, to go dinners, pizza slices, peanut butter and jelly, special discounts, etc.

“We will provide the families with a map to help find all the participating stores/restaurants,” said Cogdill. “The DWA will promote it, but we need you to participate.”

Business participants are asked to respond by May 10 to both the “Kids on Main” Committee Chair Carrie Keith and DWA. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
