Canine Good Citizen Test is Sept. 28

Sep 03, 2014

The Western Carolina Dog Fanciers Association will host a Canine Good Citizen Test in conjunction with this year's Bark in the Park, to be held from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 28, at Mark Watson Park, located at 86 Mark Watson Park, Sylva.

The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. Started in 1989, CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs that have good manners at home and in the community.  All dogs that pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Open to all dogs, some dogs that are entered in CGC tests will have completed CGC classes or basic obedience classes. Owners who have trained their dogs themselves may also have their dogs tested.

Participants must pre-register by Monday, Sept. 22. The cost is $10 per dog/handler team.
