FRANKLIN — The Canton Little League picked up its second District 5 championship when its Major Division (11-12) baseball all-star team clobbered Franklin, 13-3, at the Macon County Sports Complex Wednesday night.
Last week, the Canton Little League 7-8 all-star softball team also beat Franklin to win the D5 title.

In the top of the first, Canton’s Brady Goolsby singled and scored ahead of Travis Shuford, who belted a two-run homer to take an early 2-0 lead. But Franklin rallied with three runs a half inning later to recapture the advantage, 3-2.
But that was all the runs Franklin would score.
In the second inning, Hunter Cseledy and Sawyer Trull led off with back-to-back singles and Keegan Hudson’s RBI-double tied the game at three.  CLL took a 5-2 lead after Cseledy and Hudson stole home.
In the bottom of the third, the Canton all-stars scored five more runs to take a 10-5 lead thanks to five walks and RBI singles by Lane Mease and Brooks Valentine.
Shuford blasted a solo home run, his second of the game in the fourth to give CLL a comfortable 11-3 lead.
In the fifth, Canton got the necessary two runs and played solid defense in the home half to enforce the 10-run mercy rule.
