Canton carnival rides start Friday
CANTON — The annual Labor Day weekend carnival rides, sponsored by FOCUS on Canton, begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29.
Wristbands will be for sale for $15 Friday night only. Tickets can also be purchased for $1 each. Most rides require two to four tickets each.
The ride schedule is from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29; from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30; from 2 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31 and from noon to 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1.
For the second year, T.C.'s Amusements from Rock Hill, South Carolina, is providing the rides. Last year, a weekend of rain scuttled any hope of profit, but all are hoping for better weather, said owner-operator Bill Hurst.
Company employees were working diligently Thursday afternoon to have the rides set up by Friday, when they will be subject to inspection.
Frank McLeod of McLeod Concessions of Waynesville got a jump start on setting up his two concession booths at the Canton Recreation Park, and other booths were on site, but not unpacked.
On Friday night, Canton will feature its ongoing summer Pickin in the Park featuring the Vintage Country band and Southern APpalachian and Smokey Mountain Stompers. Saturday will highlight a classic car show, musical performances and a cornhole tournament.
Sunday afternoon and evening offers Southern gospel music and Monday will kick off with a 10 a.m. Labor Day Parade, followed by ongoing performances at tyhe park throughout the day.
In light of the 76 years of service to the Canton community, the Canton Lions Club has was named grand marshals of the 108th Canton Labor Day Parade.
