From elaborately decorated contemporary homes to a rustic, traditional atmosphere, ticket holders for this year’s Canton Christmas Tour of Homes will find plenty of holiday decorating inspirations.
The annual fundraiser sponsored by the Canton Educational Society, will feature tours of eight fully decorated Canton homes, including a chance for guests to do some Christmas shopping.
The tour helps fund the Miss Labor Day scholarship, which goes to the three top Pisgah High School contestants in the annual Miss Labor Day pageant.
Although the tour is a fun tradition for many people to attend each year, it's mostly about showing community support for the teens heading for college.
"It is important for people to support this event because it supports our young women, it allows them to further their education and realize their full potential," she said. "This fundraiser is unique in that its a labor of love, all the committee members have a heart for education and watching the girls earn a scholarship to attain an education is a great opportunity."
Home number five, which is located at 58 Highland Street, will be the “Flutter” portion of the tour. For Flutter, members of the organization have chosen a room to furnish using furniture and decorations from local businesses that will be for sale to those touring the house.
Each room will be decorated differently, with everything from the rugs to the wall hangings for sale to the public.
Those opening up their homes for the tour include Neal Chastain and Shannon Mason; Marty, Joy and Adriana Phillips; Cole Smathers; Janice Stamey; Doug’s Folly; Dennis and Marlene Cole and Anita Maier.
Proceeds from the ticket sales and 10 percent of the money made from the furnishings and decorations will fund the Miss Labor Day scholarships.
The tour will last from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2. The cost is $10 per person and children under 12 are free.
Items in the Flutter home will be available for browsing and purchase for ticket holders at 7 p.m., immediately following the tour.
The sale will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3.
Tickets can be pre-purchased at Polly’s Florist in Canton and Mountain Home Collection in Waynesville and at any of the homes on the day of the tour.
The homes may be toured in any order. Contact Laura Simmons for more information at 400-0699.
