Canton Pigeon River Fest will be Aug. 23

The Canton Pigeon River Fest will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the River Walking Tail and the Canton Recreation Park. It will be a day of fun and music for the entire family.

The festival will feature craft vendors, a large car and tractor show and a variety of foods along the river.

There will also be an antique show featuring several dealers and a variety of fun activities for the children.

The Little Miss and Mr. Labor Day pageant will be held at 11 a.m. at Turner Stage located at the Canton  Recreation Park. Focus on Canton who is the sponsor of the Pigeon River Fest decided to incorporate the pageant with this year’s River Fest.

“We thought this would be a great time to show off all of Canton’s cuties at the River Fest,” said Deborah Reed president of FOCUS.

The contest is open to little girls ages 1-8 and boys 1-5.  Winners will be crowned in each age division and will be invited to ride in the Labor Day Parade held in September in Canton.

The entry fee for the contest is $10 and forms are available at the Canton Town Hall, Polly’s Florist and Crawford / Ray Funeral Home.  The event is sponsored by FOCUS on Canton and for additional information, call Sherry Ray at 828-648-3535.

The Gray Wolf Band will take the stage following the pageant and will perform a variety of music for everyone to enjoy.

As the day begins to wind down, everyone will be looking forward to the free sunset concert by the famous Band of Oz at 6 p.m. Canton residents will be excited to welcome home Jerry West, a member of the Band of Oz.

Bring chairs, blankets and dancing shoes to this fun event in Canton.
