Relay For Life of Canton will take place from 6 p.m. Friday, May 16, to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Canton Recreational Park.

Relay For Life is a 12-hour event that brings together teams from local businesses, schools, churches and families for fun, food, music, entertainment and a night under the stars while team members take turns walking around the track. It is a night that allows the community to come together to celebrate with cancer survivors, remember passed loved ones and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much.

The event will begin with survivors taking the first lap as the community celebrates with them by cheering them on.

“My favorite part of the night is the luminaria ceremony that will take place at dusk,” said Jenny Stamey, event chair.

During the event people can purchase luminaria in memory or honor of loved ones who have been touched by cancer. The luminaries are placed around the track and are lit during this special ceremony of remembrance.

“We invite all of our local cancer survivors, caregivers, family and friends to take part,” said Stamey. “You will be glad that you did. I would like to personally thank everyone who has made Relay For Life of Canton such an ongoing success over the years. I am honored to be part of something so special and feel so blessed to live in such a caring and generous community.”

Monies raised from this event will go toward the American Cancer Society’s research education, advocacy and patient service programs. Call Jenny Stamey at 734-3552 or Maria Rogers at 734-8881 for information. Those unable to attend but wishing to make a donation may do so at web
