Canton seeks town attorney applications
The Town of Canton is currently accepting applications for a town attorney until March 14.
Longtime town attorney Walter Clark recently retired after 60 years working for the town, leaving a vacancy for the position. The town attorney is appointed by the board of aldermen.
The successful candidate must hold a Juris Doctorate degree and have graduated from a law school accredited by the American Bar Assocation, be a member in good standing of the state Bar and have a minimum of three years as a practicing attorney in North Carolina. Applicants with a comprehensive knowledge of municipal law and prior governmental experience at the city or county level are preferred.
The town attorney will be expected to attend all board meetings, which are held at 6 :30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. They are also expected to work in an advisory capacity for the board, town manager, town clerk, and department heads in all legal municipal matters and fulfill all other duties prescribed in the town ordinances.
Candidates should send a resume and cover letter with salary expectations and a breakdown of possible additional fees for services such as hourly fees for representation and preparation of legal documents.
