Carolina Wildcats win Beast of East Super NITBallclub has fundraiser planned for May 18
FLAT ROCK — Haywood County’s Jack Mulhern, Nico Pipitone and Nick Worrell helped the Carolina Wildcats 13-and-under AAA baseball team win the Mountain Sports USSSA of Canton sponsored Super NIT 13/14 Division Tournament on April 14 at the Blue Ridge Community College’s baseball field.
The Wildcats went 4-0, defeating the Asheville 14U Braves (6-2), mercy-ruled the Carolina Cubs, 15-0, beat Carolina Pride (6-1) in one semi and defeated the Western Carolina Angels of Hendersonville in the championship game, 5-2.
One of the Wildcats’ coaches is Waynesville’s Matt Mulhern.
This past weekend the team traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina to play in a Global NIT 13/14 Division held at Tyger River Park. The Wildcats defeated Mustang (Belton, SC) Baseball, 13-3, beat Spartanburg’s D6 Cavaliers, 8-2 and 6-5, to reach the championship game.
In the title game, the Wildcats held 13U Majors (S.C.) UBC Venom two a pair of runs through the first four innings. But several errors and a six run rally handed the Carolina Wildcats an 8-0 loss.
The Wildcats stranded seven base runners over five innings.
The ballclub is hosting a fund raising captain’s choice golf tournament on Saturday, May 18 at Sequoyah National Golf Club in Whittier to raise money to help pay tournament fees and costs for the Wildcat’s spring and summer travel season.
The players are seeking hole sponsorships and teams of four to play. Any team member can provide more information and sign those interested up to play or sponsor.
