Carolinas PCA 'In Den Bergen' to raise money for Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation
The Carolinas Region, Mountain Area of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) is hosting the 5th annual People's Choice Concours, "In Den Bergen," from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at The Waynesville Inn Golf Resort and Spa.
More than 70 Porsches are expected at the event, which is open to the public. For non-registered participants, PCA requests a donation to Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation. There will be a raffle of numerous items following the PCA dinner Saturday night that will also benefit Sarge's. In addition, Sarge's volunteers will bring some of their foster dogs available for adoption to the Inn.
In 2012, the Mountain Area of Carolinas PCA, presented a check for $3,500 to Sarge’s President, Gary Smith.
“Sarge’s is very grateful to the Mountain Area of Carolinas PCA for raising this money to help with the expenses involved in the rescue of animals from the local shelter,” said Smith. “In August, Sarge’s adopted out 49 dogs and cats. This tied the record for the best August ever. Plus we transported 54 dogs to Northeast rescue shelters where they are more rapidly adopted. This donation will go a long way to provide needed medical treatment and fuel for transports.”
The Porsche Club of America was formed to promote the enjoyment and sharing of good will engendered by owning a Porsche. Ron Becker, PCA member and local Waynesville resident, came up with the idea of a mountain retreat for members to show and enjoy one another’s cars. “Seeing that Porsche is a German made car,” said Becker, “it was a natural fit to name the event ‘In Den Bergen,' meaning ‘In the Mountains.'”
"‘In Den Bergen’ at the Waynesville Inn Golf Resort and Spa has quickly become one of the premier annual events of the Carolinas PCA, drawing participants from all over the Southeast,” said Lauren Lopez-Boylston, director of the Mountain Area. "Our generous sponsors and the Waynesville Inn staff, led by Bob Bielan, Ashley Izzi and golf pro Travis Smith, make it possible for us to enjoy ourselves in a stunning mountain setting and also provides PCA members an opportunity to give back to the local community. The participation of Sarge’s volunteers and foster animals during the Saturday People’s Choice Concours further enriches the experience for participants at this lovely venue.”
The primary sponsor is Harmony Motors, the local Porsche Audi VW dealership in Asheville. Associate sponsor is Stuttgart Motorwerks, an independent Porsche specialist in Hendersonville and Jan Davis Tire Store, a locally owned and family operated full service tire and underbody store in Asheville.
