WAYNESVILLE — Joseph Carroll Hyatt Sr., 74, of Estes Drive, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Mission Hospitals – Memorial Campus.
A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Joseph Woodrow and Elsie Parris Hyatt and was also preceded in death by his wife, Linda Hyatt, and two brothers, Tommy and Robert Hyatt. Carroll loved to loaf and fish for trout. From 1958 to 1966, Carroll and his brothers ran the Sanitary Barber Shop on Main Street. He also drove tractor and trailer trucks together with Linda for 20 years. Carroll was a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by three children, Joseph Carroll Hyatt Jr., Michael Hyatt and Cheryl Hyatt, all of Waynesville; one sister, Shirley Usry and her husband, Robert, of Raleigh; one brother, Bill Hyatt and his wife, Dean, of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Michael Allen Hyatt Jr., Heather Hyatt, Jacob Hyatt, Zachary Lee Haynes and Joshua Allen Haynes; five great-grandchildren, Bella and Zane Hyatt, Chase and Ainsley Haynes, and Mason Lunsford; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of special friends.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Allens Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Eddie Deitz, Randy Hyatt and Jack Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. prior at the church. At other times, the family will be at 888 Allens Creek Road Waynesville, NC 28786.
