To mark the 127th birthday of the Francis Grist Mill, the Francis Mill Preservation Society is hosting Cars and Cornmeal II, a pre-1972 car show, featuring Cornbread Ted and the Butterbeans from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 7, at the mill, located at 14 Hugh Massie Road, Waynesville.
Auto registration is $15 or $10 in advance. Spectator tickets are $5.
Cornbread Ted and the Butterbeans is a unique musical group from north Georgia. They describe their music as “pre-Depression, ruckus-raising music.” Their style fits in with Cars and Cornmeal II and the history of the Francis Grist Mill, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Enjoy a stroll on the lane to the millpond, tour the restored mill, see grinding demonstrations and local crafts. Then enjoy barbeque by Friends of the Mill and Mama Moody’s Fried Pies. Bring a street rod, antique car or the old truck Grandpa drove and join the fun.
