From Tuesday, March 28 through the month o f April, The Big Red Barn in Waynesville, is hosting a cat food drive for Feline Urgent Rescue (FUR of WNC).  Donations may be dropped off inside the building from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, at the building, 79 Branner Ave., Waynesville.

Canned or dry cat food is needed to feed the cats and kittens that have been rescued and are living at FUR’s 2600-square foot sanctuary. Currently, there are 65 abandoned, displaced or sick cats from Haywood County living at the sanctuary.

“While people are leaving their cat food donations, I hope they will visit the FUR store inside of The Big Red Barn” said Maggie Hickle, volunteer and coordinator of the FUR Store. “It has a selection of new or very gently used household goods and vintage and antique items that we have received as donations to sell to help fund the care of the cats and kittens at the sanctuary.”

FUR was founded in 2012. As a 501c3, it operates solely through volunteers and more are needed to work at the store and also to help care for the cats at FUR’s sanctuary.
