MAGGIE VALLEY  — Catherine Julie O’Brien, 84, of 165 Nottingham Road, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Mission Hospital.

A native of Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary LaFleur was also preceded in death by her beloved companion, Harold “Shag” Hibbits.  She was a waitress at of Manero's in Hallandale, Florida, for many years and attended St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church.  Catherine was a colorful and enduring woman.  Her passion was horse racing, and she traveled the circuit for nearly 18 years.  She also enjoyed sewing and spending time with her loving family.
