WAYNESVILLE — Cathy Elaine Smith Merritt, 57, of 43 Edwards St., passed away on Oct. 24, 2012 at her residence.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Roena Mathis Smith and was also preceded in death by a sister, Jackie Smith.  Cathy had two passions in life, her beautiful garden and extensive rock collection. She attended Allen’s Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Danny Merritt; two sisters, Brenda Ingle of Candler and Lynn Frazier of Waynesville; three nephews and their wives, Jeff and Tonia Ingle, Greg and Jennifer Ingle, and Colby Frazier; great niece and great nephew, Sarah and Jaxon Ingle; and two special friends, Jan Inman and Amy Hall.
