'Celebrate Life' performance celebrates Palm Sunday

Apr 04, 2014

The Music and Drama Ministries will present “Celebrate Life” at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 13, at First Baptist Church, located at 100 S. Main St., Waynesville.

“Celebrate Life” is a musical and dramatic collaboration between Buryl Red and Ragan Coutney that was released in 1972.  Thousands have been influenced by this musical drama. Red, a composer, has been credited with paving the way for contemporary artists like Chris Tomlin and modern worship.

The life of Christ is revealed through music and drama beginning with Jesus’s birth, ministry, death and resurrection. The musical numbers and the drama are closely intertwined as the four Gospel writers — Matthew, Mark, Luke and John — share more of the Christ story through their dialogue between musical numbers. Their parts are being played by Daniel Atwood, Matt Wells, Jacob Hunt and Brian Woods, respectively. The musical numbers feature the Sanctuary Choir and several soloists and will be supported by the Instrumental Ensemble.

The community is encouraged to include “Celebrate Life” as a part of their 2014 Lenten journey on Palm Sunday.
