Waynesville — Charles William Hicks, 83, of Sour Apple Lane, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2013.
Charlie was born April 26, 1930 in Mt Airy to the late William Mack Hicks and the late Stella May Midkiff. He resided in Lothian, Maryland and Marco Island, Florida before retiring to Waynesville.
Charlie was employed by the National Hydrographic Office in Washington, D.C., which has since been incorporated into the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He worked in the Division of Defense and Mapping. In his spare time and after retirement, Charlie enjoyed boating, gardening and woodworking.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Hicks.
Surviving are his wife, Janet Gale Leith-Hicks of Waynesville; his children, Elaine Hummel and her husband, Mark Hummel, of Baltimore, Maryland, Sandra Payne of Annapolis, Maryland, Kimberly Hood and her husband, Sebron Hood, of Plano, Texas, and Jason Hicks and his wife, Juli Hicks, of Copley, Ohio; grandchildren, Daniel and Brian O’Doherty, Sebron, Helen and Meagan Hood and Richard Mehok and Kylie Hicks.
