When the statue made by former Tuscola High School art teacher Bill Eleazer, "Chasing Tadpoles" needed to find a new home, Historic Frog Level was a natural choice.

The statue of three children playing in water was originally located at Biltmore Square Mall in Asheville, but needed to be moved when the mall closed. Sandra Hayes with the Waynesville Public Arts Commission was the first one to jump at the chance to relocate it to Haywood County.

Waynesville Mayor Gavin Brown, members of the art commission, town officials and others instrumental in getting the statue relocated to Frog Level gathered on Aug. 2 at the corner of Depot and Commerce streets for a formal art dedication for the statue.

The merchants in Frog Level hop to continue the tradition each year with a Frog Hop Festival with vendors, entertainment and children's activities.
