On April 10, seniors from Central Haywood High School enjoyed a night on the town with dinner and a show.

The group, chaperoned by Colleen Marks and Amber Shive, English teachers, dined at Luella’s Barbecue restaurant on Merrimon Avenue. After dinner, they went to the Belk Theater on UNCA’s campus to watch the theatre department’s spring production of Shakespeare’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream."

The play kept the Shakespearian prose but staged the performance in well-known contemporary Asheville haunts such as Jack of the Wood and the Botanical Gardens.

“They did a great job combining Shakespeare’s language with a modern setting, relating the story to today and current events,” said Jessica Taylor Lee. “It was a fun field trip.”

“I was very entertained," said Richard McKinney. "Our whole class especially enjoyed the humor of the actor playing the role of Nick Bottom. He was hysterical.”

Good food and great entertainment are just a few perks of being a high school senior.
