Childers to speak at Canton Lent services
The Rev. David Childers, director of the newly formed Haywood Parish of the United Methodist Church, will preach at the Canton Community Lenten Service of worship, to be held at noon Thursday, April 17, at First United Methodist Church of Canton. An offering will be taken on behalf of the Canton Community Kitchen. The 30-minute service will conclude with a lunch in the Church's Fellowship Hall. The public is invited.
Childers grew up in Mooresville, graduated from Western Carolina University and worked as a technical writer in Charlotte before being called into the ministry. In July 2013, he was called to the Haywood Parish, which is a new grouping of Beaverdam, Elizabeth Chapel, Faith, Francis Cove and Maple Grove United Methodist Churches, who share ministers and other resources.
He and his wife, Sharon, live in Waynesville. Their daughter, Sarah, is a junior at Tuscola High School, and their son, Logan, is an eighth-grader at Waynesville Middle School. Another daughter, Kristen, lives in Charlotte with her son, Torren.
