Chili Challenge to be March 9

WILD BUFFALO — Mike Eveland serves his Wild Mike's Buffalo Chili.

Do you think you have the best chili or know someone who does? The Maggie Valley Chamber of Commerce invites you to prove it.

The 2014 Chili Challenge will be held 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at the Maggie Valley Inn & Conference Center. This popular event has been a winter-time favorite for locals and visitors alike. The committee has made a few changes this year to make the event even more fun:

The theme for this year’s challenge is the Academy Awards of Chili. Competitors are asked to pick a movie that best describes their chili, and are required to dress up in costume to match a character (or characters) from that movie.

Many unique recipes will be used and competitors are encouraged to share their secrets. The public will judge the contest. Competitors are encouraged to bring friends and family to vote. Academy Awards will be handed out in the following categories: Best Chili Movie (first place), Best Chili Production (second place) and Best Chili in a Supporting Role (third place).

The public is encouraged to participate in the fun. The Chamber of Commerce will roll out “red hot chili carpet” and awards will be given for the Best and Worst Dressed people of Maggie “Valleywood.”

Anyone can enter the cooking competition. The cost to participate is $10 for members of the Chamber of Commerce and $15 for non-members. Applications are available by contacting Teresa Smith at the Maggie Valley Chamber of Commerce, 926-1686 or email teresa@maggievalley.org.
