The Haywood Home Builders Association had its second Chili Challenge Feb. 19, at Brannon Forrest Club House, sponsored by Ron DeSimone, with Ron DeSimone Contracting.  This event began last year as a “Chilly Month” event for February, the coldest month of the year, to bring some fun to members of the HBA. They also to had the opportunity to meet, eat chili, entertain and talk to one another. The HBA decided to make this an annual Chili Challenge, bring local chefs to judge the event, along with the People Choice Award, from the HBA members. The HBA Vice President, Joseph Massie, with Benchmark Builders, received the judges first place winner again this year, and Bryan Greene, with Green Brothers Well & Pump, won People’s Choice first place winner.

One of the judges was local small business owner, Mitzi Davis, of Heavenly Grounds, 100 Spicewood Dr., (near Mountain Medical Center). Davis encouraged attendees to visit to her coffee shop for a pastry breakfast or try a sandwich or soup lunch and a cup of coffee.

The HBA encourages the importance to keep business local and to promote small businesses in Haywood County. When building or remodeling a home or business, the community is encouraged to support local builders, sub-contractor, and merchants. Call the HBA office at 454-0221 to find a licensed builder or sub-contractor.
