Christopher wins sheriff nomination
Greg Christopher won the Democratic nomination for sheriff Saturday in a landslide vote.
Out of a total of 136.5 votes, Christopher captured 104.5 and 32 voted for Bryson.
Only members of the Democratic executive committee, local elected officials and precinct chairmen and vice chairmen were allowed to cast a vote.
The half vote was because one person from a precinct was not able to attend, and both the chair and vice chair of each precinct had to be present in order to equal a whole vote, said Janie Benson, chairwoman for the Democratic Party.
The post for sheriff was left vacant after Bobby Suttles announced his retirement in January. Because Suttles resigned in the middle of his term and is a Democrat, the Democratic Party was given the task to choose his successor.
