1936 – 2012

CANTON — Clara Johnson Green, 76, passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Albert and Lois Mathews Johnson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Green, who died in 2001; a son, Gary Steven Green, who died in 2008; one sister, Catherine Burch; and three brothers, Ray, Harry and Richard Johnson.  Clara was a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church in Tignal, Georgia.  She loved reading, working puzzles, swimming, antiquing, square dancing, but most of all playing with her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Green Jennings, and her husband, Lee, of Seneca, South Carolina, and Patsy Green Hagood, and her husband, Larry, of Canton; one son, Danny Ray Green, and his wife, Julie, of Waynesville; two sisters, Doris Powell, and her husband, Sam, of Clyde, and Nellie Almond, of Marion; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m.  Sunday, Aug. 26,  in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Roy Kilby officiating.  Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
