Waynesville, NC - The Classic Wineseller, Waynesville’s premier small plate restaurant, retail shop, and intimate live music venue, kicks off its June music series on Friday, June 6 at 7pm with husband and wife folk duo, Dana and Susan Robinson. The Wineseller’s on-premises restaurant serves up small plate and tapas-style fare Wednesday through Saturday beginning at 4:00pm.

Dana and Susan Robinson are two guitar-playing, banjo-frailing, fiddle-sawing, and harmony-singing interpreters of the American experience. Their unique blend of contemporary songwriting and traditional Appalachian music bring to their performances a deep understanding of America’s musical heritage.

On Saturday, June 7 at 7pm, the Classic Wineseller presents an evening of gypsy jazz  music with Michael Pilgrim on mandolin and Don Mercz on guitar. Mike Pilgrim and Don Mercz have been playing music together for over 30 years and share an affinity for the passionate and exhilaratingly up-tempo Gypsy jazz music.

On Friday evening, June 13 at 7pm, Frost Effect featuring Dominic Frost (guitar, vocals), Dan Frost (bass, vocals), and Robbie Lanue (drums) will rock on the outdoor bandstand.

Joe Cruz (piano, ukulele, vocals) delivers with hits of the Beatles and Elton John on Saturday, June 14 at 7pm. Born in NYC, Joe Cruz grew up singing and playing in church. As a teenager he started performing regularly at clubs in NYC. He has opened for such greats as Chicago, Bonnie Raitt, and Santana.

Sheila Gordon plays and sings Friday, June 20 at 7pm. Ms. Gordon has been playing piano and singing her way in to the hearts of thousands since she was a young girl. Earlier in her career, Ms. Gordon was the star attraction at a piano bar in Nashville, TN where she held the title for ten years. Sheila Gordon’s beautiful voice moves effortlessly between musical genres such as blues, jazz, gospel, and popular music.

On Saturday, June 21, singer-songwriter James Hammel is featured in the Classic Wineseller’s second themed cabaret show. Hammel will perform his show entitled, Celebrating a Collage of Life: a Journey Through Some of Life’s Most Poignant Moments. Joining Mr. Hammel are Bill Bares on piano; Patrick Brown on saxophone; Zack Page on bass; and, Rick Dilling on drums. A delicious four-course dinner is included with the musical performance for $34.99 per person. Seating is limited. Reserve your table at 828-452-6000.

On Friday, June 27 at 7pm, Joe Cruz returns for a musical tribute to the Beatles and Elton John.

Singer-songwriter and guitar sensation Jacob Johnson appears Saturday, June 28 at 7pm LIVE at the Classic Wineseller. Johnson is a young, energetic performer who has shared the stage with songwriting masters from Edwin McCain to David Wilcox, and who hangs out with guitar heroes like Tommy Emmanuel, and Tim Reynolds (right-hand man to Dave Matthews). While it is his flashy guitar pyrotechnics that might grab your attention, his songwriting, personality, and performance style are what set him apart from the rest of the young guitar-slinging pack. In short, to quote Tommy Emmanuel, "Jacob rocks!"

His debut CD offering, Est. 1986, ranges from Dylan-esque folk tunes to quirky ballads, such as the love song to his guitar, "Treat Her Right." Johnson shows that great music doesn’t always have to be serious. Johnson likes to call his style of playing “Neo-acoustic folk/funk”.

In live performances, his off-the-cuff sense of humor and tongue-in-cheek sensibility disarm the audience and leave them unprepared for his multilayered guitar mastery. Johnson thumps, taps and slaps his guitar into submission, weaving a musical tapestry that usually climbs to sonic frenzy while never losing its balance or control. He delivers thoughtful and realistic lyrics with a wry sort of charisma. He has been compared to John Mayer, James Taylor, Jack Johnson and Keller Williams.
