Claude E. 'Gene' Setzer

WAYNESVILLE — Claude Eugene Setzer, of Oxner Cove Road, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at his home.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Ellis Rufus and Rose Lee Edwards Setzer and was also preceded in death by many brothers and sisters. Gene was a gifted carpenter and had the fortune to work for several building contractors over the years.
In his spare time, Gene enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. He was a member of Camp Branch Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Bryson Setzer; one daughter, Vickie Page (John), of Waynesville; one foster daughter, Monica Stevens (Mike), of Canton; one sister, Rose Morrow, of Waynesville; one brother, Ellis Rufus Setzer, of Waynesville; a special niece, Brenda Stiles; three foster grandchildren, Sadie, Maggie and Tyler Stevens, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Waynesville with The Revs. Johnnie Passmore, Jerry Nelson, and Johnny Swanger officiating. Burial will follow Rocky Branch cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
