WAYNESVILLE — Clyde Hampton Mehaffey, 84, of Pink Dogwood Lane, passed awayTuesday, March 13, 2012, at Autumn Care Nursing Home.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Dock and Lois Smathers Mehaffey and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tracy Mehaffey; one granddaughter, Maria Mehaffey; two sisters, Dixie Ensley and Louise Shelton; and one brother, Bud Mehaffey. He was owner of Clyde Mehaffey Concrete and Finishing Company and a member of Balsam Baptist Church. Clyde served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mabel Downs Mehaffey; one daughter, Delia “Dee” Sluder, and her husband, Dean, of Arden; three sons, Dewey Mehaffey and his wife, ...
