CMS, WMS boys, Canton Middle girls advance into BRC tourney semifinals

Three of the five local basketball teams made advanced into the semifinals of the Blue Ridge Conference Middle School Boys and Girls Basketball Tournaments after picking up opening round wins Monday afternoon.
In the boys tournament, No. 1 seed Canton Middle trounced Apple Valley Middle, 50-20, and No. 2 seed Waynesville Middle beat Polk County Middle, while Hendersonville Middle ended No. 3 seed Bethel Middle’s season by defeating the Blue Demons, 45-34.
The Black Bears will play Hendersonville Middle at 4:30 p.m., and the Mountaineers  will play Rugby Middle at 5:45 p.m. today at Rugby Middle.
In the girls tournament, No. 3 seed Canton Middle advanced into the semis with a 36-16 victory over Flat Rock Middle, while  No. 4 seed Waynesville Middle was eliminated after losing to Brevard Middle.
CMS will play at at Brevard Middle School against Macon Middle with a 4:30 p.m. tipoff.
The BRC Basketball Tournaments’ championship games are set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday with the girls game at Hendersonville Middle and the boys title contest at Rugby Middle.
