Communities explore merger possibilities

Lake Junaluska is not quite ready to ask Waynesville for its hand in marriage, but the community is getting closer, Ron Clauser told Mayor Gavin Brown and Waynesville's Board of Aldermen at Tuesday night's governing board meeting.
"We're going to the prom, and maybe we'll get married," said Clauser, referring to Waynesville Mayor Gavin Brown's earlier analogies to Lake Junaluska's courting of the town to consider annexing the Methodist retreat.
Clauser is the chairman of the Lake Junaluska Municipal Study Task Force which was chartered by the the assembly's public works department to make recommendations to the community's governing board about the future of the 100-year-old religious retreat.
