Community band begins rehearsals
The Haywood Community Band will begin rehearsals for its eleventh season of providing free concerts for the Haywood community.
Concerts are played on the third Sunday of each month, May through October at the Maggie Valley Pavilion next to the Maggie Valley Town Hall. The concerts are performed under the sponsorship of the Maggie Valley Civic Association. A special memorial concert honoring the founder, Bob Hill, will be played on Nov. 3 at the First Methodist Church in Waynesville.
In addition to the scheduled theme concerts the band also performs on Memorial Day, July 4, and when called upon by civic organizations in our Haywood community.
Band rehearsals are held from 7-8:30 p.m. at Grace In The Mountains Episcopal Church, 394 Haywood Street in Waynesville. Anyone interested in joining the Haywood Community Band should call Rhonda Wilson Kram at 456-4880. For more information, visit www.haywoodcommunityband.org.
Donations of band instruments which are no longer needed at home, are gladly accepted, refurbished, and loaned to local school band students for their use. The Community Band, in cooperation with band directors from Tuscola and Pishgah High Schools select students in the spring for scholarships to attend summer music camp programs in the region.
The Haywood Community Band is supported in part by a grassroots grant from the Haywood County Arts Council and the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency. Monitory donations to the band are gladly accepted by the band.
