Community band performs musical salute to America

Jul 02, 2014

The Haywood Community Band will play music to honor America at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 4, front of the County Courthouse in downtown Waynesville.

Beginning with the national anthem, the concert will include the "Armed Forces Salute," John Philip Sousa’s "The Stars and Stripes Forever" and "Semper Fidelis," "You're a Grand Old Flag" by George M. Cohan, the swing tune "In The Mood," "Ever Braver, Ever Stronger," and "God Bless America" by Irving Berlin.

Seven members of the band served in the United States Armed Forces, and an additional 16 members are the spouse, parent, sibling, or child of a person who wore the uniform of our country.

Bring a chair and enjoy an outdoor concert with the stirring music of Independence Day, our nation’s glorious holiday. Membership in the band is the highest in its history.

In addition, the band plays a concert at 6:30 p.m. on the third Sunday evening of each month from May through October in the open air Maggie Valley pavilion. The concerts are sponsored by the Maggie Valley Civic Association and supported in part by a grant from the Haywood County Arts Council and the North Carolina Arts Council.
