The Haywood Community Band returns for its 12th season of concerts at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Maggie Valley Pavilion adjacent to Town Hall. The concert season continues each third Sunday evening through the month of October with a free program of new selections.

The opening concert is filled with favorites from the band's extensive music library — “Shenandoah,” “The Lion King,” “Appalachian Folk Song Suite,” John Williams' “The Cowboys,” “Stormy Weather,” “The Colonel Bogey March” from the Academy Award-winning “Bridge on the River Kwai,” “A Day at Disneyland,” and the whimsical “Concerto for Faculty and Band.” The open-air pavilion is the perfect setting for an evening of live popular music. Bring a picnic and enjoy the mountain sunset.

The 2014 season presents the largest membership in the band's history. All musicians played their instruments during school years and welcome new members to join.

Those interested in joining should contact band president Rhonda Wilson Kram at 456-4880. Rehearsals are held each Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall of Grace Episcopal Church on Haywood Street, Waynesville.
