Community band special concert is Nov. 4
The Haywood Community Band will present a special concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, honoring the memory of its founding director, Bob Hill. The free concert will be held at the First United Methodist Church, on Haywood Street, in Waynesville.
Music at this concert will feature several musical pieces that were favorites of Hill. “His Honor March” will be directed by Hill’s close friend, Dick Travarthen, a retired professor of music from Western Carolina University.
The band’s four directors will each direct music to include “Armed Forces Salute,” “Lassus Trombone,” “Tribute to Mancini,” and “Hymn To The Fallen.”
For additional information, call Rhonda Wilson Kram at 456-4880, or visit www.haywoodcommunityband.org. This concert concludes the season of bringing free concert music to the Haywood Community. The band will perform again in May 2013, for the start of the Maggie Valley Concert Series.
The Haywood Community Band is supported in part by a grassroots grant from the Haywood County Arts Council, and the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency.
