An anniversary celebration was recently held for the Community Garden at the Old Armory Recreation Center. This was created in 2009 as a partnership between the Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department and Daydreamz. It was created from a request from the Seniors in the Waynesville Nutrition Program.

The idea was to provide an opportunity to create a garden of fresh produce & flowers for others to use. This volunteer based program is now in its fourth year.
From its humble beginnings using repurposed dumpsters and some donated seeds, plants, and mulch, the practice has been to maintain a chemical-free garden  using traditional or organic methods. Groups of youth from Kids At Work use produce & herbs from it weekly as they train to become culinary artists  and cooks.
Major renovations of the space have taken place in this season, as new fences, upgrading of the back parking  lot & a new pavilion were installed to enhance the area for visitors & those who work the garden.  For more information please contact Garden Manager Pamela  Norris at 456-6629.
