LAKE JUNALUSKA — Con Paul Nowakowski, 79, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at The Homestead.
He was a native of Willard, Ohio and had lived in Haywood County since 1987. He was the son of the late Con Anthony and Victoria Ptak Nowakowski and was also preceded in death by one son, Darrell Nowakowski, two brothers, Robert and James Nowakowski and one sister Mary Rank.
All of Con’s success stemmed from his compassionate heart and altruistic spirit. Early in his insurance career he managed agencies in Akron and Mansfield, Ohio. As he matured in his profession, he and Carolyn owned and operated agencies in Merritt Island, Florida and Waynesville since 1987. Con resided in Waynesville and immediately became a fixture in the community. He was a past-president of the Haywood Rotary Club, as well as a member of the Haywood Homebuilders Association, Haywood County Board of Realtors and Chamber of Commerce Ambassador. He was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church. Con was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling the country with the love of his life, Carolyn.
In addition to his wife of 57 years Carolyn, he is survived by two daughters, Melinda Wren of Melbourne, Florida; Anne Putterman and her husband Glenn of Alliance, Ohio; three sons, Robert Nowakowski of Waynesville; Daniel Nowakowski and his wife Kimberly of Viera, Florida; Jonathon Nowakowski of Waynesville; four sisters Veronica Nowakowski of Tiffin, Ohio; Ann Dion of Long Beach, Mississippi; Ida Nissen of Pensacola, Florida; Margaret Stuart and her husband Charles of Mansfield, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Antioch Baptist Church. The Rev. Steven Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
