County will host Operation Christmas Child countdown event Sept. 10
The Western North Carolina Operation Christmas Child team has selected Haywood County to host a special event to begin the countdown to National Collection Week (November 18 to 25) for Christmas shoe boxes.
The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 175 Old Clyde Road across from the Lake Junaluska post office. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and anyone is invited to attend. Homemade desserts will be provided.
The evening will be highlighted by guest speaker Tiffany Carpenzano, who was one of 18 youth selected from across the United States to visit Uganda with Samaritan’s Purse teams in 2011 to distribute shoe box gifts and work at local project sites.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, which collects gift-filled shoe boxes and delivers them in the name of Jesus Christ to children living in desperate situations around the world, helping them to have hope and feel loved.
Haywood County volunteers Bill and Becky Jarrell can be reached at 246-0331 for information on the countdown event or for other information about Operation Christmas Child.
