ASHEVILLE — Thomas Darwin Lewis, 77, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at Charles George VA Medical Center.
A native of Huntington, Texas, he was the son of the late Ira Dee and Jewel Baygent Lewis. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, J. L. Lewis and Doyle Woodrom, and two sisters, Jean Jeambert and Marjorie Gillikin. He was a retired United States Air Force veteran with 20 years of service. Darwin was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. Of all of the interests Darwin had in his life, everything was secondary to the love that he had for his family and his church.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Conner Lewis; two daughters, Pam Garrett and husband, Wiley, of Asheville, and Jodee Turner and husband, Michael, of Parker, Colorado; four sons, Keith Lewis, Mark Lewis and wife, Carolyn Sue, Steven Lewis and wife, Renee, and Kevin Lewis and wife, Ranae, all of Huntington, Texas; four sisters, Marcelene Williams, of Shepherd, Texas, Rena Modisette and Barbara Woodrom, of Huntington, Texas, and Brenda Williams, of Caldwell, Texas; two brothers, Charles Lewis, of Huntington, Texas, and Burl Woodrom, of Monterrey, Louisiana; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Clark officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will follow at a later date at Ivy Cemetery in Huntington, Texas.
