David 'DJ' Jewell Burnette

CANTON — David “DJ” Jewell Burnette, 79, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014.
Mr. Burnette was the son of the late Canary Burnette and the late Stella Bates Burnette. He was a native of Macon County and was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran with 20 years of dedicated service to his country. He worked for Champion International for 20 years before retiring. After retiring, he decided travel all over the world, which was one of his passions in life. He was also a very avid fisherman and hiker and greatly enjoyed time with his two Chihuahuas, Arlis and Stymie. He will always be remembered for his active lifestyle and his love for his family.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Burnette, who passed away only three month prior to him in March and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Scire and her husband, Joseph, of Estero, Florida; a son, David A. Burnette and his wife, Sandra, of Charlotte; brothers, Gerald Burnette, Charles Ray Burnette and Don Burnette; a sister, Frances Leer; and grandchildren, Aiden and Addison Scire.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, in the chapel of Crawford/Ray Funeral Home. The Rev. Jack Holland officiated. Entombment followed at Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum.
