CANTON — Debra Ann Phillips Messer, 58, of Swans Road, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013.
Mrs. Messer was born Oct. 4, 1954, in Buncombe County to the late Bud Phillips and the late Nell Plemmons Phillips. She made her home in Haywood County most of her life and was a devoted homemaker. Debra was member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church. She and her husband were both dedicated members of the North Carolina Search and Rescue Dog Association and several months ago Debra and Gene's beloved rescue dog, “Ranger, beloved rescue dog, that was loved so dearly by both of them, passed away. Debra was loved and cherished by her family and many friends. Her memory will remain in their hearts forever.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Swan Plemmons; her grandmother, Eva Evans; and her step-grandfather, Joe Evans; also several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her husband, Howard “Gene” Messer, of Canton; her aunt and uncle, Betty and Joyce Johnson, of Canton and an uncle, Don Evans, of Canton; and a host of cousins that loved her dearly.
Services for Mrs. Messer will be held at a later date. At other times the family will be at the home of Judy Messer Mathews, 103 Hide Away Creek , Clyde, NC
