Canton — Delmer Kuykendall, 78, a lifelong resident of Haywood County, lost a long battle with Alzheimer’s Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013.
Delmer was born December 26, 1934 to the late Henry Mckinley Kuykendall and the late Cornelia Christopher Kuykendall. He was the owner and operator of a gas station business in Buncombe County from 1961 to 1991. Delmer made many friendships that he considered his extended family. He will be remembered for his quiet and generous manner and also his honesty and dependable work ethic. Many will miss him.
In addition to his parents, Delmer was preceded in death by his wife, Lela Ann Stewart Kuykendall; his grandson, Andrew Kuykendall; and brothers, Orin, Lucius Everett and James Alvin Kuykendall.
Surviving are his sons, Jim Kuykendall and his wife, Teresa Kuykendall, and Brad Kuykendall; a daughter, Karen Penland and her husband, Vernon Penland; two granddaughters, Haley and Leah Penland, all residents of Haywood County; a sister, Mary Lou Wilson; and a brother, Leo Kuykendall.
A memorial service will be planned and announced at a later date.
