Deputy at fault in Highway 209 wreck
The sheriff’s deputy involved in a wreck last weekend has been issued a citation for the accident.
Deputy Nathan Deweese was traveling North on Highway 209 Saturday when he decided to make a U-turn to help the driver of a vehicle that was broken down in the middle of the road, according to authorities at the scene.
When he made the turn, however, he cut in front of a van driven by 68-year-old Lorna Stevens, of Waynesville. Stevens broadsided the vehicle, damaging both cars.
Both vehicles were deemed undriveable according to the incident report.
Stevens was taken to the hospital and later underwent surgery for a broken leg. Deweese did not suffer any injuries from the crash.
The N.C. Highway Patrol investigated the crash and determined Deweese was at fault, issuing him a citation for making ...
