Develop creative style through drawing, painting classes for adults

Inspired Art Ministry, Inc. painting class

Drawing and painting classes for adults, taught by instructor Char Avrunin, are ongoing. Using the Protique method, Avrunin works with each individual in the class to help him or her use the techniques and theory she is teaching to aid in the development of unique style. The Protique method uses traditional instruction in technique and theory, combined with student input, to result in a forward moving, exciting journey for each individual to travel in their art pursuits.

The six-week term of drawing and painting classes will continue through October, and attendees may come to individual classes on a pay-as-you-go basis. Each class meets from 1 to 4 p.m. in the MAC building of First Baptist Church in Waynesville, located at 100 S. Main St. Classes are offered by the Inspired Art Ministry, Inc. (AIM), a nonprofit corporation which tithes to the church in appreciation of their support and use of space. IAM offers an art library of books and materials available for students to check out; an annual art show and fundraiser; entry in other local art shows; field trips to working artists' studios, galleries, museums and shows; a Christmas party; and discounts at Mountain Home Collection and GSC Gallery and Frame Shop. Advanced and professionals are exhibiting in Cedar Hill Gallery on Main Street in downtown Waynesville.

Avrunin creates a welcoming classroom atmosphere that invites individuals to leave all outside distractions behind. The synergy of the group draws individuals along and helps them find his or her own path. There is no competition or comparison of work with others', and no one works on the same subject at the same time.

Beginners will concentrate on basic technique, and intermediates will venture deeper in technique and are guided with an eye to their interests and capabilities. Advanced students progress through advanced techniques with more liberty on subject matter.  Professional artists come for the pleasure of working with other pleasant and positive people.
