DILLSBORO — Big hats, tall hats, little hats, small hats. All are welcome as the town of Dillsboro hosts its 25th annual Easter Hat Parade on Saturday, March 30.

The parade, a Dillsboro tradition the Saturday before Easter, begins at 2 p.m. and showcases a variety of interesting hats atop people - and pets - of all ages.

If you can't find a festive fedora, fear not. Hat-making takes place on the lawn of Dogwood Crafters.

Meanwhile, official hat judges award prizes in more than 20 categories, such as: biggest, smallest, funniest, most unusual, "poofy-est," most creative, most Easter-like, best-smelling, and most outrageous. Last year, there were approximately 250 entrants in the contest.

In addition to colorful hats, the parade features vintage cars provided by the Old Timers Model A Club. The Easter Bunny also hops into the mix. He rides in the parade and is available for photos with children throughout the day.

Although the Easter Hat Parade officially begins at 2 p.m., folks are encouraged to arrive early and spend the day. Easter egg hunts for children begin at 10 a.m., as do the hat-making sessions at Dogwood Crafters.

Dogwood Crafters also presents an English tea at the Jarrett House Inn. Tea and food will be served on fine china, with the artisans from Dogwood Crafters showcasing their cooking skills by preparing the delicacies. There are two seatings - 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. - and cost for the tea is $12 per person.

Dillsboro is a walkabout mountain village featuring an assortment of shops, arts & crafts studios, restaurants and inns.
