Dinner with the Doc – 'Winning the War on Lung Cancer: The Present and the Future' is Nov. 14

Dr. Scott Skibo, a physician with Pulmonary Specialists of WNC will present "Winning the War on Lung Cancer: The Present and the Future" on Monday, November 14th, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the Haywood Regional Medical Center Café.  Dr. Skibo will speak while patrons enjoy a healthy meal and he will answer questions following the seminar. More than 220,000 new cases of lung cancer are diagnosed each year making it one of the most common types of cancer, second only to skin cancer. It’s often dismissed as a “smoker’s disease,” but up to 20 percent of patients have never smoked and the majority of patients are former smokers when they’re diagnosed. In the United States, lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer deaths. Dr. Skibo will address the causes of lung cancer, detection and treatment methods, and what you can do to prevent this deadly disease.

Scott D. Skibo, MD, FCCP, completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Yale University in New Haven, CT. Prior to his fellowship, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Rochester, NY. He received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology/Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

He is Board Certified in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He has been elected a fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians. During his career, Dr. Skibo has been a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Instructor of Medicine at Brown University School of Medicine, and Clinical Instructor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Skibo practices a full spectrum of Pulmonary Medicine, but has a particular focus in the area of Thoracic Oncology.
