Domestic violence, abuse needs to be confronted
There are some parts of the world where violence and fear is the normal state. Thankfully, that is not the case in our nation. Violence of any sort is shocking to most Americans, and stories about violence often make the news because inhumane actions still shock us.
Safety is an expectation in our country, and it is especially taken for granted in smaller, rural communities such as ours. For the most part, residents here are connected to the rest of the community in some way — their church, a neighborhood, an organization or some other common link.
