Loving Mother, Grandmother

MAGGIE VALLEY — Donna L. Gibson, 72, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at Mission Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Beatrice Moody Hall and Felix Hall. She was also preceded in death by her father, Lee Lewis; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Bradley, Steve Woodard and Bill Medford; and her father-in-law, Hulan Gibson.

Ms. Gibson is survived by her son, Chris and his wife, Kathy, of Maggie Valley; a beloved granddaughter, Ashley Gibson, of Bryson City; sisters, Shirley Bradley, Carolyn Burgess, Judy Medford and Kay Woodard, all of Maggie Valley; mother-in-law, Dorothy Gibson, of Maggie Valley; sister-in-law, Betsy Ferguson, and her husband, Gerald, of Waynesville; several nieces and nephews; one special niece and “chauffeur,” Kelli W. Snyder; and a host of close friends.

Ms. Gibson was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a legal secretary for law firms before her retirement from the Haywood County District Attorney’s Office. After her retirement she worked part time for the Maggie Valley Fire and Rescue Department. She was an active member of Peachtree United Methodist Church and the U.M.W.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with the Revs. Kitty Crain, Jerry Nelson and Martha Buff Welch officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation in her memory.
