Upcoming Author Events at Blue Ridge Books

— Rose Senehi, 3 p.m. Saturday, July 5

Senehi will read from and discuss her newest novel, "Dancing on Rocks." "Dancing on Rocks" weaves through a network of memories, secrets and mutual dependencies twisting through an isolated community of 112 at the foot of Chimney Rock State Park. This portrait of a small North Carolina mountain town reveals how, by sticking together over the generations, the shopkeepers, innkeepers and park people have kept this iconic village alive.

— Lin Stepp, 3 p.m. Saturday, July 12

Stepp will read from the sixth book in her Smoky Mountain series, "Down by the River."  The Smoky Mountain Series is a linked series of upbeat, sentimental contemporary romance novels. "In Down by the River," recently widowed Grace Conley impulsively decides to buy a beautiful old bed and breakfast nestled along the Little River in the quiet mountain town of Townsend, Tennessee. Her new plan to sell and leave her family home in Nashville and to renovate and reopen an old Victorian inn in the Smokies, simply shocks and scandalizes her family.

— Tom Davis, 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19

Davis will discuss his new memoir, "The Most Fun I Ever Had with My Clothes On." In his memoir, the author relates his experiences during the 31 years spent in the U.S. Army, rising through the ranks from private to full colonel. Twenty of those years he served with U.S. Army Special Force, the Green Berets. This book chronicles his time in three combat zones — Vietnam, Bosnia, and Iraq/Turkey. Thomas "Tom" Hoyt Davis III, a.k.a. "the Squid," entered the Army as a private and retired as a full colonel.  This is Davis’ fourth book.

— Ashley English, 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27

Meet and talk with Ashley English, known for her website, "Small Measures," and her series of books on homemade living. She will present ideas from her newest book, "Handmade Gatherings: Recipes and Crafts for Seasonal Celebrations and Potluck Parties." This event is sponsored jointly by Blue Ridge Books and the Haywood County Public Library as part of the library’s Adult Summer Reading Program.

— Garden event on native plants, 3 p.m. Saturday, August 23

Blue Ridge Books and the Haywood County Public Library are jointly sponsoring a discussion with Janet Lilley, Linda McFarland and Dr. Dan Pittillo, botanist and wildflower expert. The three co-authored the book "Seasons in a Wildflower Refuge," their story of the Corneille Bryan Native Garden at Lake Junaluska. Of special interest will be using native plants in the landscape.
